Senior pupils launch sustainability initiatives and seek parental support for considerate parking
Teddingtones Community Choir
Launched in November 2021, The Teddingtones Community Choir is open to anyone who wants to experience the joy of singing and meeting new people!
Meeting every Wednesday evening, they are a friendly group who enjoy performing everything from classical to musical theatre to pop. The choir welcomes singers of all abilities, whether you’re an experienced chorister who can read music or a complete novice who simply loves singing!
The choir is led by Teddington local and professional singer and vocal coach, Laura Luck. The choir rehearses every Wednesday evening from 8.15pm to 9.45pm, at Newland House School (Pre-Prep Hall), 32 Waldegrave Park, Twickenham TW1 4TQ. It’s a relaxed and fun atmosphere, possibly with a little chocolate and wine thrown in so do get involved!
Stop Idling Pledge
Idling produces up to 150 balloons of exhaust emissions per minute which contain harmful chemicals like cyanide, nitrogen oxides and fine particles (PM2.5) that are known to be able to travel deeply into the respiratory tract effecting lung function, worsening medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease and contributing to over 40,000 deaths per year..
In October 2021, the school signed the Richmond Borough Pledge to stop idling and widely promoted this message to parents and across social media. Help us to improve the quality of air around the school for our pupils, our neighbourhood and Richmond Borough by joining us in signing the pledge and find out more about the damage caused by idling.
Golden Lock & Car Free Day
On Friday 24th September 2021 we are supporting the Transport for London/Richmond Council 'Golden Lock' initiative which is aimed at encouraging parents to leave the car at home and either cycle or scoot with their children to school.
The initiative is linked to International Car Free Day and as we know, leaving the car at home reduces air pollution outside the school and has many benefits including improving both physical and mental health. On Friday a random bicycle or scooter will be selected in the Prep and Pre-Prep Schools and will be padlocked with a Golden Padlock, with the lucky winners receiving a small prize. We hope as a consequence that our neighbours enjoy slightly quieter traffic on this day.
School Operations September 2021
Following the relaxation in COVID guidelines this summer, school operations are almost back to normal for the autumn term. We are pleased to advise neighbours that the requirements to have children come into school using staggered starts times, so that year groups can be kept separate for distancing purposes, have been removed and parents are now able to come back on school grounds during morning drop-off and collection. We appreciate the support and patience which the local community has demonstrated during the adverse circumstances under which we have been operating over the last 18 months.
We continue to encourage parents to cycle and walk to school and have installed a number of additional cycle racks which are being very well utilised since the return to school. You may wish to see other measures which we have introduced to support our Walk, Cycle or Scooter to School campaign and School Travel Plan:

Annual Key Dates
There are several significant dates throughout the academic year:
- The school holds an annual Carol Service at St Mary with St Alban for Pre-Prep Children and parents and a service at St Mary’s Church in Twickenham for Prep children and parents.
- Speech Day takes place every year on the Friday afternoon of the last day of term and all pupils in Year 3 upwards are expected to attend.
