The school offers a wide range of clubs and extra-curricular activities, all of which play a part in extending the children’s interests. The club schedule is set on a termly basis and the majority of clubs are run by the school and are complementary. However, we do also utilise the expertise of external club operators for example, ballet and basketball and there may be a small charge for these clubs.

Pre-Prep Club Timetable Autumn Term 2023

We offer music tuition and drama through our peripatetic music teachers. Parents make independent arrangements with the music teachers to cover the cost of these lessons.

Violin, cello and recorder lessons in Year 1: children may have individual instrumental music lessons in school time; there is also the option to learn all the above instruments as a small group during school hours. In exceptional circumstances children may learn the piano in Year 1.

Violin, cello, recorder and piano lessons in Year 2: in Year 2, there is also the option to learn all the instruments below (with the exception of piano) as a small group during school hours.

Violin, Viola, ‘Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Baritone, Tuba, Piano, Voice, Guitar, Drum Kit, Music Technology, Music Theory and Acting.

Individual lessons will be on a rotating timetable so the children will come out of their lessons at a different time each week.

We have a diverse and exciting range of trips throughout the school calendar including:

Cricket Tour: Each year we offer our senior boys an opportunity to play cricket overseas. Destinations have included Grenada, Kenya, Barbados and South Africa.

Ski Trip: Every few years the school runs a ski trip during the February half term. For the last four trips the destination has been Quebec and Niagara Falls and we are running the trip again in February 2022. The trip includes skiing at Mont Sainte Anne and Stoneham, a morning at Valcartier Snow Park and a visit to the world famous CN Tower in Toronto.

Greek Trip: We have run numerous successful trips to the well placed resort of Tolon in the Peloponnese, where the children were able to visit many sites of great interest including Olympia, Mycenae, Epidauros, Nauplion, Mistra, Ancient Corinth and the Acropolis.

French Trip: We offer a French trip every spring to Chateau de la Baudonniere in Normandy. The idea behind the trip is for pupils to immerse themselves in the French language in a friendly, supportive environment for a week. There are also visits to a British War Cemetery and the Bayeux Tapestry.

UK Trips: There is also a series of residential school trips nearer to home and there are leavers' trips for senior boys and girls in the summer term. Newland House Choir tour annually and have visited Bruges, Paris and Salzburg where they sang at the famous Church of St Michael Mondsee (the venue for the wedding in the film The Sound of Music).

The school provides a supervised, breakfast facility which operates from 7.30am – 8.20am every day. Children can be dropped off by parents whose morning commitments make this an attractive option.  A charge is added to the end of term bill and the cost of this is currently £6.

We also offer supervised, activity-led after school care for all children at the school, providing daily supervision up until 6pm based in the dining hall at the Prep School. During this time, the children will have an opportunity to complete homework as well as participate in activities, games and sports. Pre-Prep and Nursery children participating in the club will be chaperoned to the main school at the end of their school day. The club costs £6 until 5pm or £12 until 6pm and parents are invoiced on a termly basis. Complimentary sandwiches, fruit and a drink will also be provided.
