PSHE
PSHE is a wonderful subject that helps children’s personal and social development. There are four interrelated strands. Understanding Yourself which helps them gain in confidence; Developing Relationships which enables them to foster better relationships both inside and outside school; Keeping Healthy which encourages the children to lead healthier and safer lifestyles and Developing as a Citizen which begins to prepare them to play an active role as good citizens. We help children to achieve these aims, which are part of a whole school approach, through assemblies, circle time, various school events and certain cross curricular work in the classroom.
In Reception the children look at topics about themselves. These include places they like, getting dressed and things they can do. Other areas they look at include healthy snacks, keeping clean, playing together, sharing belongings and where they live.
In Year One they move on to examine their likes and dislikes, keeping fit, listening and working together, the dangers of pollution and the importance of rules.
In Year Two the topics studied include setting goals, road safety, swimming, caring for their friends, resolving conflict, conservation, endangered animals and finally, the all important theme of working together which runs throughout the school.
Newland House is very much a family and PSHE helps everyone from the very youngest in our community to have high moral standards and appreciate their role within the family as a whole.
