Australia Day

If it’s January it must be barbecue weather! At least, it is if you’re a pupil at the Pre-preparatory department of Newland House School.
To celebrate Australia Day (Tuesday 26th January) pupils and parents took part in an outdoor ‘sausage sizzle’, braving the elements and enjoying a barbecue lunch in the playground.
While all the children had great fun, there was a serious side too. Australian Finola Kennedy, who works at the school, spearheaded a fund-raising drive for Strathewen Primary School in Victoria, which was destroyed in the devastating bush fires last year. When Finola went home at Christmas, she presented the school with a cheque for £475.
The sausage sizzle was a chance for pupils and adults to think about the events in Australia and catch up with the latest news from Strathewen School. It plans to use the money raised by Newland House to help rebuild and re-equip the school.
