London Schools Acro Tumbling Competition

Newland House entered eight gymnasts in the regional event (five boys and three girls). They had to perform three tumbling routines and were judged out of ten for each. Harry (Year 6) went on to win Gold and become the London Regional Champion.  Joe Gellett (Year 5) won a Silver medal and Oliver Baines (Year 5) closely behind with a Bronze. James Bisping performed very well finishing 4th considering he does not belong to a gym club (maybe this will inspire him to do so!) followed by a good performance by Hugh Dollery. Harry and Joe will go on to perform at the Nationals in May.

The Girls’ competition proved to be much tougher in terms of more competitors.  Due to a matted floor being used instead of a sprung floor it meant that Lizzie could not perform her tuck back (somersault) normally making her routine of higher technical difficulty.  Lizzie gained a very creditable Bronze medal as she was out-pointed by gymnasts from Putney High with more artistic flair.  Scarlett Wright who is an acrobatic gymnast and was performing in the tumbling competition for the first time, followed closely behind Lizzie, with great elegance.  Libby Hall also performed well in her first tumbling competition.

I would like to thank all the parents for their support and to Kath and Rob Small, two Richmond coaches (both National Champions and G.B coaches) who came in to school to prepare the children for competition.  Last but not least, a very big thank you to Mrs Kilby for all of her hard work in running the administration and for her great enthusiasm.
