Headmaster cooks Children in Need Supper

On Friday the 11^th November, Newland House School hosted a Children in Need supper for the parents. Guests sat down to a sumptuous supper at balloon-festered, candle-lit tables where peppered melon and Parma ham with roasted onion lay in wait.

Year 2 introduction to the Orchestra

On Thursday, Year 2 went to the Orpheus for Schools concert at the Cadogan Hall. They were introduced to the instruments of the orchestra in Benjamin Britten’s “ The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra”.

Rome 2011

Some other Year 8 boys had a long weekend soaking up the history of Rome. Three days of beautiful weather punctuated by riots, a road-closing marathon, impressive culture, pizza and pasta meant the group had an eventful but fun time.

On our last day of cricket we travelled down to Howick. We visited the Falls and had a chance to do some bartering at the souvenir markets. Sadly, our last game against Howick Prep was cancelled.

After our game on Friday, we travelled north up to Lake St Lucia to see hippos and crocodiles. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the cruise up the lake.

On our first morning in Durban we travelled down to the coast and visited the aquarium. When we had seen enough sharks and penguins we returned to Thomas More College.

We have flown from west to east and are now staying just outside Durban in preparation for our match tomorrow against Thomas Moore College. Everyone is in fine spirits and looking forward to a morning trip to a world class aquarium before the cricket.

Year 8 action-packed week in France

At the end of the Summer holidays, the Year 8 boys spent a week at the Chateau de la Baudonniere. During this time, not only did they improve their French language skills, they also took part in numerous fun activities.

The Pre-prep held a unique event one morning last term. Three of the children's mothers brought in their new babies. The children then had to guess who was the oldest and who was the youngest baby.

Another successful year for the Eco Marathon Team

The Eco Marathon team entered an informal competition at Mallory Park Racing Circuit on 20^th June. The whole team did very well and achieved a mileage of 1543 mpg.

1st XI cricketer scores unbeaten century

On Saturday 21^st May, T. Godfray scored 106 not out as the 1^st XI beat Thomas’s, Clapham by 117 runs. Godfray’s century was the tenth for the school in the last decade.

Campfire songs

Adrenalin filled from the daring activities of the day, the adventurers are given grid references, bearings, maps and compasses to find their way to the bonfire site. The challenge on the way is to find enough food, water and firewood on the way to be able to cook their own supper.
